They weren’t tardy for the party, and the wanna-be reality stars told Matt Lauer this morning on “Today” that they’re no state dinner crashers. What’s worse:

“This has been the most devastating thing that’s ever happened to us,” Tareq Salahi, along with his wife Michaele, told Matt Lauer in the couple’s first television interview. “We’re greatly saddened by all the circumstances that have been involved in portraying my wife and I as party crashers. I can tell you we did not party crash the White House.”

The couple said they are reeling from the media attention. “Our lives have been destroyed, everything we’ve worked for Matt,” Michaele Salahi said. “For me, 44 years, just destroyed.”

Interestingly, they wouldn’t say who it was that invited them. (The White House says no one did, Desiree Rogers and the White House social staff aren’t looking too smart since it turns out they were tipped off by the WaPo’s society columnist Roxanne Roberts and still did nothing to prevent the Salahis going through the receiving line, the Secret Service is preparing to fall on its sword, and is promising to be extra, extra careful next time.)

Meanwhile, who will show the Salahis the money? Also, Roxanne has dish on the Salahis Facebook fakery.
